Artist bio
While Nathan Tewi is primarily a drummer, he also plays guitar, bass and sings. After graduating from WHSPA, he has had many opportunities to play multiple genres including jazz, latin and classical. He is now in a post-punk band called “Sega Jade”, touring nationally, and recording their debut album.
Artist statement
My project is a 3-track EP titled “Hinderance” that is focused on trying to engage with the hardships of mental health and mind states in tough situations and hard times. I produced, recorded and played everything myself with additional background vocals by Jack Payne.
My first track “Thumbtacks” explores the problems with addiction and the effect it has on ourselves and the people around us. A thumbtack represents the thing we are addicted to, knowing it is bad and still doing it even though we know the consequences. Track two “Most of it” addresses the pain of loss, the different ways of grieving and how that can become a lesson in how we respond. Track three, “It is done” draws on the realisation that bad things happen and at the end of the day we can’t do anything about it but make awesome music.
