Artist statement
My capstone project titled “There is a Luminescence” is a 3-track experimental rock/indie EP. The EP is based around two concepts, the lyrical concept being that the songs are written from the perspective of a lamp post, and that instrumentally I will be experimenting with odd time signatures, morphing sound and using odd harmonies.
The drums written and recorded by Nathan Davy, saxophone by Matilda Dickson and some assistance in production from Hamish Laverack, all other instruments were recorded, written and produced by myself. The drums and electric guitar were recorded live; all other instruments were recorded individually.
The three songs tell three different stories, “St Cecilia” describing my journey in music and how I have evolved as a musician, “Hooliganisms” going into detail on youth, taking inspiration from the 1996 film “Trainspotting” directed by Danny Boyle. The final song “Taxi” describing a miscommunication between two friends whose relationship could’ve been something more.
