Artist statement

“Kyrios Iēsous” (Greek for “Jesus is Lord”) is based on the highly eventful and dramatic life and missionary journeys of Saul/Paul, an apostle of Jesus. It consists of six sections – the first portrays Saul persecuting the church, the second portrays Saul’s conversion, and sections three to six portray each of Paul’s four missionary journeys.

My goal was to produce an orchestral score that incorporated the type of music that would have been present during Paul’s lifetime. My research focused on Ancient Greek music, and rather than attempt to accurately recreate this music, I’m seeking to pay homage to this period and style in smaller ways throughout the piece.

I composed on Musescore and developed the audio on Ableton. I sought regular feedback from Ethan Tudor, Sally Gyngell, Lewis Kerr, Jamal Baquayee, Jai Cole and Terumi Narushima.
