Artist statement
My major project is a self-produced 3 track EP which combines intricate and technical math rock guitar playing with dreamy/ambient tones and melodies. I explored alternate tunings, complex rhythms and time signatures to create a body of work that brings out a warm, comforting feeling while incorporating complicated riffs, polyphony and polyrhythms.
The main focus of the project was to experiment with writing for guitar, and to challenge myself with new sounds, tones and tunings. The guitar is used for melody, harmony and ambience throughout, and I used a range of effects and production techniques such as reverb, delay, chorus, overdrive and more.
I drew inspiration from styles such as dream pop, jazz and shoegaze which made the process exciting and challenging for me. The EP was composed, produced and mastered by myself with the exception of synth layers recorded by Emilio Donebus. The artwork is a photo taken by my father in 2014 that to me represents the nostalgic nature of the EP’s sound.
