Ben Chin is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born and raised in Wollongong. He first took lessons on the piano from a young age, then learnt the bass guitar, and then asked himself “Why not try to learn as many instruments as possible?” Ben’s songs are often reflective of his own lived experiences.
Artist statement
“Father Time” is all about learning how to surrender control over the future. This year, I felt completely lost and stressed over what the future may hold for me. It was not until I started reaching out to friends and family that I realised that life is too short to be worrying about what comes next, and I’ve gotten to where I am by figuring it out in the moment.
My first track “Figure It Out” was a massive, collaborative project, featuring Ethan Tudor on Drums, Tom Wilcox-Symons on both Acoustic & Electric Guitar, Callum Spillane on Bass Guitar, Matilda Dickson on Saxophone, and both Melody Tough and Sally Gyngell on Backing Vocals. Whilst I was also a part of this ensemble as the Pianist, Anielle Saminaden and Jai Cole were the Studio Engineers who encapsulated the playful and upbeat energy of the music which could only be achieved in a 1 take. In contrast, my final track “Father Time” is an entirely self made and produced, as it is solely reflective of my own faith.
I hope to release all of these as singles as a reminder for people to be kind to themselves.
