Artist Bio
Victor Strange is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Wollongong. Playing the drums from a young age, Strange has since extended to other instruments such as guitar, bass, and piano. He plays drums for the local Wollongong band benchwarmers, as well as playing in many other projects past and present such as Finding Darcy (Bass), Chelsea Daghita (Bass), and The Summer Guppys (Drums).
Artist Statement
My project is a 3-track EP titled Holden, a collection of songs that explore the concept of personality. Inspired by Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of The Catcher In The Rye, my project revolves around an isolated, alienated persona who journeys through change.
The first track, ‘See You Tonight’, is an upbeat alternative rock song, showing the persona’s joy and admiration of their ‘focus’. The recording is played by myself (Drums, Guitar), and Will Coleman (Bass, Vocals).
The centrepiece of the EP, ‘Holden’, is an acoustic, folk ballad with self-deprecating lyrics from the perspective of the persona. Cole Park’s double-tracked vocal integrates with the Acoustic Guitar (myself), Bass (myself), and Cello (Miranda Green) to create a vast and fragile sonic world.
The final track, ‘All About You’, is a song about loss, discovery, and nostalgia, with retrospective narration focusing on the persona from the outside. On the recording, I play all the instruments except for Tristan White on Lead Guitar, and Chelsea Daghita on Vocals. For the concert performance of this track, I have myself on Piano, Will Coleman on Bass, Cole Park on Rhythm Guitar, Tristan White on Lead Guitar, Connor Sandison on Drums, and Chelsea Daghita on Acoustic Guitar and Vocals.
