Rosie Dempsey is a vocalist and aspiring music teacher based in Wollongong (Dharawal Country), with a particular interest in music education and performance.
She is currently in her 3rd year at the University of Wollongong, studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts course as a music major. Alongside this, Rosie has recently become the lead vocalist for alternative/indie rock band Second Skin. Her passion for teaching inspired her to begin vocal coaching at Bulli High School temporarily, with that experience placing her on La La La’s ‘Young Blood’ event committee as their line-up coordinator.
Artist Statement
My major project for CAMS380 is a 2-track EP titled Wasting My Time, which explores my perception of coming into adulthood and the different ways in which I’ve dealt with this change. Featuring musical themes found in indie and alternative rock, I wanted my songs to evoke feelings of teenage rebellion, loneliness, and desire. Both tracks were recorded solely with live instrumentation, using Ableton Live to record drums, vocals, and electric bass in the recording studio, and LogicPro for other vocals in my home studio. I mixed and mastered all of my tracks in Ableton Live. My collaborators for both songs are Abi Cuthbert on rhythm guitar, Victor Strange on drums, and Tristan White on lead guitar, with the vocals and electric bass for both songs performed by myself.
