Artist Statement

The Approach is a three song EP containing an amalgamation of wildly different sounds, a result of using different compositional approaches for each individual song. ‘Singularity’, featuring Miranda Green (Bass), Declan Sapienza (Guitar) and Michael Litherland (Drums), kickstarts the journey with some rhythm, playing around with time and textured space through several layers of instruments. Compositionally driven around collaboration and rhythmic feel, it captures the controlled chaos that music often entails, keeping you on your toes throughout the whole piece.

The second and third songs, ’10/10′ and ‘Open Waters’ respectively, are independent projects, both featuring the piano, with ’10/10′ also containing vocals. Melodic composition was at the forefront of my thought in ’10/10′, with the major challenge being to make a melody I could both play and sing at the same time, and trying to push my vocal abilities where possible. ‘Open Waters’ is driven purely through smooth harmonic movements, pulling you into a world in which every note leads into the next with both intention and grace.
