Artist Bio
Ewan Dimmock is an emerging musician, composer and producer living in the Southern Highlands of NSW. He is currently undergoing a Bachelor of Creative Arts degree with a major in music at the University of Wollongong. His music is heavily influenced by electroacoustic experimentation and ambience.
Artist Statement
My project Acoustic Synthesis explores the idea of producing music in the style of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) while using traditional and acoustic recording techniques.
My work aims to convey themes of ambience and atmospheric effects, and throughout the compositional process I have experimented with different ideas; starting with melodic and chord patterns on a MIDI keyboard, and then creating appropriate drum and bass tracks. I followed this process for all three songs, creating ‘demo tracks’ in Ableton, and it was at this point that I progressed into the recording studio – reproducing all three tracks physically using the Prophet, Juno and Moog synthesisers, alongside drum kit and electric guitar.
Throughout the process, I collaborated with Aleksei Iagunkov (Electric Guitar, Mixing) and Aydin Richards (Mixing). Ultimately, Acoustic Synthesis pioneers an experimental approach to electronic music.
