Artist Statement

My project is a concept EP, blending three songs and a brief introduction track together as one work, which loosely follows an overarching story of an artificial intelligence android awakening in a post-apocalyptic future as the only sentient creature left. With scattered memories of the history of our world, the android slowly regains memories of life, music, art, beauty, sorrow, and ultimately death as its battery drains over the course of the project. The music does not reflect this story explicitly, but rather uses it as a guide for inspiration and lyrics.

To achieve a musical aesthetic that reflects its themes, the EP uses a blend of acoustically-recorded elements and highly-processed samples and vocals, creating a glitchy and robotic soundscape rooted in familiar and natural timbres. All samples were either recorded by me or sourced and paid for through online sound banks such as Splice. The EP was written and produced exclusively by myself, with feedback from lecturers being the only outside contribution which helped shape the project’s direction.
