Artist Bio
Michael Litherland is an experienced drummer and newly-established music producer with an interest in Electronic Dance Music (EDM). His work showcases his unique abilities to create and perform songs that are inspired from genres such as funk, rock, bass house, and Latin music, amongst many others.
Artist Statement
Through this Major Project, I have aimed to discuss the conceptual idea of human connection. In the project, this idea is reflected (in vague contexts) through lyrics similar to what is presented in 2000s/2010s pop music. These lyrics aim to appeal to the masses while still allowing for a personal connection to the pieces throughout this EP.
I had the opportunity to use the AI system ‘Suno’ to help collaborate on draft versions of the songs. This assisted in broadening my understanding of human-developed and AI-developed ideas as I used both throughout the creative process of this project. The instrumentation was assisted by ensemble members Declan Sapienza (Bass), Ael Hennequin (Piano), Tim Nguyen (Guitar) and Sonia Tse (Vocals). All instrumentation was recorded, mixed and mastered within UOW’s recording studio, and later spliced and aligned in post-production to create the right atmosphere I had intended for each song.
