Artist Bio
Mary Robinson is a pianist from Dublin, Ireland, now based in Wollongong. Classically trained in piano and music theory with the Royal Irish Academy of Music, she draws inspiration from her Irish heritage in her performances and research. Her work explores ethnomusicology and cultural expression through both solo and collaborative recording projects.
Artist Statement
Since moving away from my native Dublin, Irish culture has become increasingly important to me – perhaps a case of “absence makes the heart grow fonder.” My major project pays homage to this heritage by retelling the ancient Irish myth of The Children of Lir through music.
The instrumental work follows the narrative arc of the story: peace, loss and redemption, using sound to evoke emotion and transformation. Each composition acts as a chapter, guiding the listener through the journey of the four siblings and their enduring bond. This project is both a personal reflection and a creative response to the modern resurgence of Irish culture.
By reinterpreting a traditional tale in a contemporary context, I hope to celebrate cultural identity and explore how music can carry memory, story and belonging.
