Artist Bio
Declan Sapienza is a musician, composer, multi-instrumentalist and sound engineer from the Wollondilly Shire. Declan’s practice explores the relationship between music and people, centred around the idea that the meaning an audience naturally takes from a piece of art is more important than anything the artist originally intended.
Artist Statement
My project is a 3-track EP called Remember the Time? which explores the progression of funk and disco music from the 60s and 70s to the modern era. It is the culmination of my university experience in a single work.
In creating this project, I experimented with vintage and modern recording and production techniques, with each track representing a different musical period. The EP was recorded in collaboration with Ael Hennequin on Piano and Electric Keyboard, and Michael Litherland on Drums, with a sampled brass track from Samuel Wong on the first and second songs.
