Program notes
My project is a three-song EP about the journey. In particular, my EP focuses on a journey between two different lands in which I dictate the “East” and the “West”. For me, this is a link between my Irish and Australian heritage. The idea behind the EP was to pay homage to my heritage whilst also creating a piece of art that is relatable and enjoyable to listen to. The three songs differ both musically and in feel. The EP transforms from acoustic to distorted throughout, continuously depicting the struggles of experience. The first song is recorded with two condenser microphones capturing the acoustic guitars as the main focus. The second song is similar to this but has added an electric guitar captured by micing up several amps. The third song has bass guitar, drums and electric guitar. All of which were miced up in the recording studio. The vocals were sung and recorded at my home studio with a condenser microphone for all three songs. To complete my EP I needed much help from a few of my colleagues. To help me with the recording aspect, Darcy Penkethman. To help me with lead guitar, George Schweitzer. To help me with drums, Ellie Thompson. To help me with vocals, Tishaan Styche. Without my fellow colleagues, I wouldn’t have been able to complete this EP and the journey would have been a bust.
