Artist bio
Noah is a third year music student and a second year acting student at UOW, he has been musically inclined most of his life and started learning instruments at a relatively young age. He was always influenced to play music from his parents who introduced him to the bands he likes when he was young, he has always been a big fan of classic rock which later transitioned into a profound love for heavy metal and many subgenres of it. His performance and EP is a bi-product of his music taste and major influences in his works.
Program notes
The work that I have created has been heavily influenced by some of my favourite bands and has been made in the metal subgenre of both Groove and Thrash metal. These bands include, Lamb of God, Pantera, Gojira, Megadeth, Slaughter To Prevail and many more. My project was started with finding a tuning that suited what I wanted to play, I ended up landing in drop B tuning. After a few hours of messing around on my guitar, the foundations of my song, Anchor, were built and were cultivated from there. From that point I recruited the help of some of my peers who I knew would be interested in my project. After a few more weeks, scrapped riffs and lyrics, my song was in a good place and I was ready to begin recording. The first step was finding the tempo in which I made my song and then I directly MIDI’d my guitar into the recording setup and recorded it into the program, I started working on my drums with the help of the drummer in my performance, Matthew McNaughton. It wasn’t until a while later that I was ready to record vocals and since my vocals in the song are not clean and are metal screaming, I needed to make sure that my voice would be okay and I found the right technique for me and my voice to be safe.
