Matt McNaughton is a producer and composer based out of the Sutherland Shire/Wollongong. Stemming from his roots as a drummer, Matt’s musical style can be recognised through its upbeat and technical rhythms. Matt’s work is in the field of EDM and House music, with his genre blending a definitive feature of his work.
Program notes
‘THE CAVE.’, is a three track EP that explores the sub genres of house and dance music to create a euphoric and impressionable experience. The tracks range from soulful funk house, to haunting and energetic minimal techno. This EP acts as a sound library and exhibition for what makes house and dance music so impactful. THE CAVE takes inspiration from heavily influential and prestigious contemporary artists such as Dom Dolla, Mall Grab, and Flume. All three tracks were composed and produced entirely by me, blending elements of live studio recordings and software instruments and samples. Vocals are provided by the talented Jack Clare on the opening two tracks ‘GO EASY.’ and ‘DON’T LEAVE.’, complimenting and building upon the instrumentals. The titular track ‘THE CAVE.’, is a haunting and energetic minimal techno track, which takes the listener on a whirlwind sonic journey. This project is ultimately a culmination of the previous three years of study, and definitively a showcase of my musical expertise and knowledge.
