Program notes
‘Chaos and Order’ is a three-track EP that explores the theme of personal growth. The title is inspired by the Taoist belief of the Yin and Yang, being the balance between chaos and order. My lyrics draw on this idea and it is expressed through the metaphor of personal reflection and self-improvement. I have used this EP as an opportunity to expand my creative practice by composing three works that utilise open guitar tunings. I have also used it as a chance to finally showcase my proficiency on each instrument that I am able to play.
The first track, ‘Leave This World With Me’ is a clean, slow song influenced by indie-pop and rock works. The lyrics explore one reflecting on a relationship and the possibility of rekindling it by starting anew.
Track two, titled ‘Order’ is a hard rock song with an underlying punk influence. Its dark sound is juxtaposed with light lyrics that stress the importance of never giving up despite how tough times may be.
The third song, ‘Redemption’ is the grungiest piece in this EP. This song’s lyrics explore themes of self-realisation and personal growth which is highlighted as a form of redemption.
