Ellie is a rock drummer who also has an interest in the world of film composition. She has used her musical skills, her love for film scoring, and influences such as Hans Zimmer and Nine Inch Nails to create a piece of work that combines her two favourite styles of music.
Program notes
For my major music project, I created a piece of music that could be used as part of film score. I approached this project in a similar to composers such as Hans Zimmer, Trent Reznor and Ludwig Göransson. Rather than writing to a specific scene, I used the themes from multiple films such as Inception, Interstellar, The Social Network and Oppenheimer to write a piece of music that could suit ideas seen in any of these movies. I began by composing a demo in Garage Band using MIDI. I then developed my piece in Ableton Live and recorded the drums, guitar, bass (George) and piano (Gerty). I used MIDI samples for the brass and string sections, and techniques such as pitch bending, layering, delay and reverb to alter, manipulate and enhance sounds.
