Amber Newell has been playing violin for fifteen years and has been a member of many ensembles, bands, and orchestras. Along with her classical training, she has been highly involved in the Wollongong folk scene, both of which greatly influence the way she plays and the music she creates.
My Project ‘Dream Symphony’ is an EP that encapsulates all of the influences that make me the musician I am today. All three compositions (No.1 ‘The Magic Organ’, no.2 ‘O’Ryan’s Jig’, and no.3 ‘A Tune For Trolls’) are a fusion of classical, folk, and pop music, and are inspired by fantasy themes and folklore. A major influence in the music I compose has been both movie and videogame soundtracks, and in these pieces I tried to evoke feelings and atmosphere through musical elements such as tone colour, harmony and expressive techniques. To bring these compositions to life I used a combination of MIDI instruments and live violin recordings. The artwork for my EP was created by my good friend Rosie Kelly (Instagram: @crimsonhoneycake).
