Jack Andrews

Jack Andrews is a passionate multi-instrumentalist and performer. Being classically trained, with in depth knowledge and experience of jazz guitar and the composition of EDM, Jack hopes to implement his extensive experience of various genres and mediums of art into one exciting interactive installation and performance.

For this installation project, I originally wanted to implement the use of AI music, which is controversially shaping how music of the future is being composed and performed. I sought out different ideas for music produced by technology and found the way of Arduino MIDI mapping and the niche art of circuit-bending. Arduino technology is the use of prototyping with basic circuitry and using codes known as ‘sketches’ to send messages from the circuit board to the appropriate software. For my project I have wired up basic switches and potentiometers to an Arduino board and encased the board and wires inside of a kids toy play phone. The buttons and knobs on the toy phone will then send messages that are mapped to different effects and tracks on Ableton Live. Other interactive elements of my project will include the use of a Nintendo Wii Remote’s gyroscopic functionality and other circuit bent kids toys.
