Max Lawrence is a musician from the South Coast who works primarily in Avant-Garde compositions. The influences of industrial, drone and glitch music can be heard in both his solo and ensemble works. With this love for twisting and manipulating sounds, Max hopes to one day work in the field of sound design for film.
This project made Max challenge himself to take his art in an unexplored direction. With this piece, the harsh soundscapes of his previous works have been combined with ambient sections and acoustic passages into a single, continuously evolving track. It also marks the first time that Max has written and performed vocally for one of his pieces. This addition of spoken-word vocals which provide a reflection on the relationship between the individual and the state of the world, make this project the most personal for Max to date. The acoustic soundscapes present a return to his earliest musical works of solo acoustic guitar. The weaving together of acoustic and his industrial styles, it represents reaching into the past to determine one’s future: an additional layer of personal meaning to the piece’s theme of the necessity of self-reflection.
