Program notes
My Project is called ‘Into the Colour Spectrum’. The instrumentation of the piece consists of piccolo, four flutes, and bamboo flute which have been played and recorded by myself. My piece comprises of a theme, a short excerpt that can be heard throughout the piece, and variations. These variations consist of rhythmic ties to the theme. One example of this is in Variation 3: Dark Red, the main line in the theme has been used as the main line in the variation.
The overall concept I went for was that each variation is based around a shade of colour, which then has a feeling attached to it. My piece is an interpretation of what I feel the shades that I have chosen could sound like. I believe the beauty of this piece is that you may not agree with my choices of relationships between colour and sound, however the audience is still able to make their own interpretations.
