Robert Gyngell
Robbie is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, singer songwriter with almost a decade of professional performance experience. Beginning with acoustic guitar and vocals busking in the streets of Wollongong, Robbie has developed his craft with looping and various vocal and guitar pedal tones and effects. Vocal ingenuity is a key element of much of Robbie’s work, compounded with raw lyrics and unique yet nostalgically themed musicality underpinning stories of memory and mental unrest.
“This project has been a large step in my career as a producer, utilising sounds and addressing themes previously untouched by myself as an artist. Like many of my works, it deals with mental insecurity, but with the addition of some sense of closure and inner peace rather than an unending lament – which has been most refreshing. Lucid, minimalist chordal patterns and progressions, a constant feature of my work, has been extended further in some portions to subtly probe at the beauty one can obtain with patience and focus in regard to simplicity. This body of work has also incorporated new sounds with vocal and guitar pedal effects recently developed into my portfolio, compounded using field recordings to generate new musical material out of captured, natural sound. This project incorporates sounds from inside and outside of the studio, addressing concepts inside and outside my own psyche, all wrapped up in a heartfelt little package.”
