Oliver Shoebridge
Hailing from Sydney, Oliver Shoebridge is a producer, vocalist, songwriter, and kind of a pianist. Oliver creates all kinds of music: from loft beats to study/ relax to, to a weird combination of hiphop stuff. Sometimes with a bit of a silly comedic flair, Oliver’s one and only goal is to make music he likes making.
“‘Disco Season’ is a tragedy- a story of greed and jealousy, of ambition and downfall, but ultimately ‘Disco Season’ is disco, and that’s all that really matters.
My goal with ‘Disco Season’ was to create something fun, something a bit tongue in cheek and silly. I decided to put my usual self serious introspective song writing on the back burner while I crafted a disco Shakespearian allegory.
The story of ‘Disco Season’ is set in Disco World, a world comprised of an endless dance floor. The narrator sees the Disco-Man, a being of pure disco, and aspires to be just like him. Our narrator pleads with the Disco-Man, begging him to show him how to groove, but the ethereal being simply keeps dancing. Wrought with envy, the narrator decides in order to become the Disco-Man, he has to kill the Disco-Man, so he seeks out a contract killer to take him out. Finally, the narrator is alone, and with no Disco-Man alive, he believes he is the Disco-Man now. However deep down he knows he is not. Instead of becoming the Disco-Man, he has become the Boogieman.
