Nicolas Tshibangu

Nicolas Tshibangu is a self-taught Wollongong based guitarist, specialising in a combination of several genres including hip-hop, rock, Rnb and neo soul. With over 7 years of playing, his style has developed into a smooth and soothing style. Nick is also not shy to add distortion to explore different tone colours and genres.
“My project is a 7-minute musical journey exploring my live guitar as a narrator telling a story alongside other pre-recorded instruments as side characters on a journey. The instruments have their own characters and contribute an emotional element to the journey. Ultimately, my goal is to capture emotion in music.
Throughout the song, I explore several emotions of separation, relaxation, drive and tension in my audience. To achieve this, I created an ambient soundscape and a delayed guitar to achieve a feeling of separation. I then begin a minor chord progression with a trap drum. This gives a feeling of drive. I follow this with a soothing guitar which goes against the driven beat giving a feeling of tension. I then add a distorted guitar which amplifies the feelings of tension. All in all, I want to take my audience on a journey of emotions based on how I play my live guitar.”
