James Butler

James is a Jazz musician who wishes to highlight and maintain the Jazz genre into the future. His music aims at representing traditional Jazz music such as Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and more with a personal take and twist with both old school and modern compositional, recording and production techniques.
“My Project is a two track EP in the Jazz genre. Regarding the two tracks on the EP – the first track is a slow Jazz Ballad whilst the second is a more upbeat Bossa Nova.
Being a Jazz musician, I wished to further develop an understanding of both the contextual and compositional aspects of Jazz music to ensure I was able to understand how Jazz music was composed in order to replicate, enhance, transform, and create my own Jazz music with similar or in relation to contextual and compositional ideas.
To keep the essence of live jazz (cool jazz) music from the late 1940s/1950s, I decided to record the tracks live as much as possible to represent the idea of the ‘light night jazz lounge’ in where my love of Jazz music came from.
I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Max Williamson, Naomi Campbell, Morrisey Powell and Zachary Vella. These amazing people contributed to the class of work presented on both tracks and the performance.”
